Our Company

Craftsmanship done the right way, not the easy way.

When building a fence, there are easy ways to do things, and there are right ways to do things. Our tagline – “Craftsmanship done the right way, not the easy way” – guides us every step of the way, every day of the week.

  • We could purchase fence boards from big box retailers. But we do it the right way and work with respected local lumber mills that supply the finest boards.

  • We could hire any one of a slew of construction workers who can lift an 80-pound bag of cement. But we do it the right way and hire, train, and retain carpenters who want to serve their customers and grow as professionals in the field.

  • We could dump all the demoed old fence into the landfill. But we do it the right way and separate out the reclaimed boards and mulch it for recycling.

  • We could install a fence and walk away from the project forever. But we offer an industry-leading guarantee to allow our consumers peace of mind that their product will last.

Our Project Managers listen. They ask what you want and then combine your preferred design style with your property’s existing landscape to create a custom proposal that checks all the boxes. They provide you with same-day or next business-day estimates and regular communication throughout the length of the project. With 10-plus years of experience in the industry, our Project Managers are equipped to provide you outstanding customer service and ensure your satisfaction from day one.

That commitment to customer service permeates every level of our company. We accept payment in a variety of ways: cash, check, credit card (in person or online). We bill neighbors separately when requested, freeing you from bothersome logistics. We strive to have a human answer your calls on the first ring, and we respond to all voicemails within 24 business hours. And we stick around! We are always there for questions and even have a repairs process in place with a full-time repair crew to ensure quick resolution of any issues.

AMM Fencing is a company with a conscience. We dissemble and separate all our torn-down redwood fences, we mulch the redwood so it can be recycled, and we reclaim over 3,000 redwood fence boards each month and supply them to artisans on Etsy. We also sponsor community-wide fun runs and donate wood to local churches and organizations in Contra Costa and Alameda counties throughout the year.

We do it the right way at AMM Fencing. Every employee, every project, every opportunity. We do it right.

Our Mission Statement

To challenge the fence building status quo.

To build differently.

Our Core Values

Be an Owner

Every person at AMM Fencing – from our Builders in training to our Senior Project Manager – is asked to think like an owner. And every person, without exception, does just that. We all want what is best for the customer, the project, and the company. We all want to do what is right. And so AMM management empowers staff to lead teams and make bottom-up decisions. AMM management urges staff to move fast and experiment, for we know that while some changes won’t work, it’s better to try than to be static.

Take this example: After California’s bomb cyclone in October 2021 – when the wind damaged fences and other structures throughout the state – AMM received five times more calls for fence estimates than usual. Five times more calls with an unchanged number of staff – that was a challenge.

So, a team assembled at AMM, and quickly we shifted our operations. We developed a “No Knock” Bids promotion and offered customers project estimates without the usual in-person meeting. The “Be an Owner” mentality worked. We were able to provide twice as many daily estimates during that busy time, ensuring quicker service to our customers.

Be Human

At AMM, we believe in fostering a caring, open, and healthy environment. As such, we offer top tier pay, profit sharing, and spot bonuses for extraordinary work. We provide paid vacation and sick leave. We allow three months of paid maternity leave. Managers encourage employees to have ownership of their work and enjoy down time in the break room with free drinks, free sandwiches and snacks, and basketball and pool table space.

During the COVID pandemic, AMM offered vaccine incentives of $100 for the vaccine, $50 for the booster, and $50 for the flu shot. The result? With more than $5,000 paid in incentives, we created a healthier working community with a 100 percent vaccination rate.

But it even goes beyond that. When it’s raining, we equip our crews with rain jackets. When it’s cold, we equip them with hand warmers and hot chocolate or coffee. And when they’re going through a hard period, we provide them with time off and financial support, no questions asked.

We’re all human at AMM. We never forget that.

Be in it for the Long Term

We think long term at AMM. We invest profits back into the company, purchasing new trucks, new table saws, and new technological tools to help us communicate better. We help our builders and front office staff grow their careers through training and opportunities outside their defined role, we hire employees for their cultural fit and potential (and not necessarily for what they can offer us on day one).

And we think long term about our communities. We mulch our torn-down redwood fences to allow for recycling. We reclaim over 3,000 redwood fence boards each month and supply them to artisans on Etsy. We donate reclaimed wood to the Boy Scouts, local churches, and other organizations. We sponsor fun runs throughout the year.

Whether it’s our company, our employees, or our community, AMM Fencing has its eye on the prize. Tomorrow, next year, next decade. We want everyone to succeed.
